PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE

We support and promote:

  • Our "public utilities" should be "publicly owned", and not controlled by commercial, private, or foreign entities.

  • The use of fossil fuels and nuclear energy, as well as both passive, green, and other energy alternatives.

  • The Streets Department should consider the following: 1) engineering alternatives to conventional asphalt roads which are difficult to properly maintain. (See SmallStreetsPhilly.org), 2) a year-round on-call pick-up public service for yard waste, and 3) "recycling" warehouses for items that can be repaired, sold, or given away to individuals, businesses, or charities, such as clothes, furniture, and other household items, 4) add another crew member to trash collection so that they can clean up after themselves and not leave a big mess, and lastly, 5) Get rid of the Big Belly's that stink, jam, break down and over all disgusting!

  • Licenses & Inspection employees need to do their job and ensure properties are properly maintained, or be replaced.

  • Residents should know who the Streets Department supervisors and L&I inspectors are for their section of Philly.

  • Requiring Department of Parks & Recreation to do the following: 1) End the use of toxic turf (See SaveTheMeadows.com), 2) End the use of toxic chemicals on public property per the HOPS Act (See ToxicFreePhilly.org), and 3) Hold monthly public meetings to include open public comment.

  • Requiring The Water Department to stop adding the neuro-toxin, fluoride, to its water. See: FluorideAlert.org
