THE PHILADELPHIA PLAN
PUBLIC WORKS - GO
LOCAL!
We
support and promote:
-
We recommend a
federal "Manhattan Project" to find clean sources of energy,
but in the meanwhile, we support "all
the above" sources of energy including: passive, solar,
wind, geothermal, fossil fuels, and nuclear energy.
-
Our
"public utilities" (coal, gas, electric, &
water/sewer, sanitation, streets, etc departments, airports,
ports, highways, bridges, etc.) should be "publicly owned,
locally controlled", and not managed by commercial,
private, or foreign entities. This is particularly important
for energy, so that we don't experience large regional power
outages.
-
The Streets Department should consider
the following: 1) engineering
alternatives to conventional asphalt roads which are difficult to properly
maintain. (See SmallStreetsPhilly.org),
2) a year-round on-call pick-up public service for yard
waste, and 3) "recycling" warehouses for items that can be
repaired, sold, or given away to individuals, businesses, or
charities, such as clothes, furniture, and other household
items, 4) add another crew member to trash collection so
that they can clean up after themselves and not leave a big
mess, and lastly, 5) Get rid of the Big Belly's that stink,
jam, break down and over all disgusting!
-
Licenses & Inspection employees need to do their job and
ensure properties are properly maintained.
-
Residents
should know who the Streets Department supervisors and L&I
inspectors are for their section of Philly.
-
Requiring Department of Parks & Recreation to do the
following: 1) End the use of toxic turf
(See SaveTheMeadows.com, 2) End the use of toxic chemicals
on public property per the HOPS Act (See
ToxicFreePhilly.org), and 3) Hold monthly public
meetings to include open public comment.
-
Requiring
The Water Department to stop
adding the neurotoxin, fluoride, to its water. See:
FluorideAlert.org
(Covers City
Council Committees: Public Property & Public Works, Streets &
Services, Licenses & Inspection, Transportation & Public
Utilities, Water & Air Quality, Parks/Recreation/ and Cultural
Affairs, Technology and Information Services, Neighborhood
Services)
